My project was a 3 part project that helped clear out Microplastics in the Biscayne Bay Area and raise awareness about the issue of microplastics as a whole. It consisted of a first weekend to build our own sieves to use at the project, followed by a big cleanup day, where volunteers kayaked to Clarington Island and spent 7 hours clearing microplastics using the sieves, and cleaning up normal trash as well. The last part of the project is an awareness campaign consisting of making keychains out of resin and the collected microplastics, and distributing them along with microplastic pamphlets to make the issue of microplastics known.

My projected consisted of building two bird boxes for Eastern Sreech Owls, an owl type native to South Florida. The bird boxes were placed on the Tropical Audubon Society's property, the Doc Thomas House. The primary purpose of bird boxes is to provide protection for owls. Owls will be able to seek shelter in the bird boxes when it is raining, during windy conditions, or in any other heavy weather conditions. The secondary purpose of the bird boxes is to provide a safe area for the owls to raise their offspring. The bird boxes are helpful to the Tropical Audubon Society as they aid them in protecting native species of birds in South Florida.

The goal of my project was to educate the community about the urgent need for blood and platelet donors while also hosting a blood drive event. Leading up to the event, I created educational materials, including flyers with QR codes linking to informational videos. With the help of volunteers, we welcomed donors, shared lifesaving facts, and encouraged long-term participation in blood donation. The impact of this project goes beyond just the blood collected that day, which doubled my original goal of 20 donors. By raising awareness, the project inspired members of the community to continue donating in the future, helping to ensure that local hospitals have the blood and platelets they need to save lives.
